lame-oids

What is it about students that make them think they have the right to give you that look ... you know ... that "I can't believe they let you teach this class and why am I wasting my time by being here and boy, you really suck a lot and the smart ones in here know it, you stupid phony-ass TA. That's right ... TA ... Teaching Assistant. We all know you don't have your PhD yet. That's why we're all going to give you a severely pained/bored expression because we want you to know how intensely difficult is it for us to keep our eyes open. We want you to hurt, TA. We want you to hurt! By the way, please disregard this when you are grading our tests and papers!!" look? Someone must have sent out a memo to 70% of the students in my first recitation that this is the ideal look to have in class. It's like the new popped collar.

I had good stuff today, I really did!! I scrawled all over the board and everything. And 30% of the class liked it. Pfft, stupid first section lame-oids. Sometimes I worry that I talk to much in there and don't encourage enough discussion, but I always feel like it's such a cop-out to say: "That's a great question, Katie/Emily/Jordan/Suckface. What do the rest of you think?"

Whatever.

Ok, I have to go teach the other one now! Let's hope they missed that memo.
