So I went home to Y.O. to visit my family, mainly to tell Yia Yia about the whole situation. Here's how it went:

Yia Yia: How is Ryan?

Me: Yia Yia, Ryan is gay.

Yia Yia: Ryan is dead??

Me: No. Gay. Gay. Homosexual. He likes men.

Yia Yia: Gay?

Me: And we're getting a divorce.

Yia Yia: Of course you're getting a divorce. What the hell else would you do if he's gay?

I assured her that I'm fine, that I'm handling everything well, and that she didn't need to worry about me. That was pretty much all she needed to hear. She was shocked, but calm, and after discussing it further for 10 minutes or so, she went back to talking to me Yia Yia things, like times she's experienced poor customer service and all her friends' health problems and whatnot. I love Yia Yia. The only time she seemed rattled was right before I left. She told me that when she was younger, her mother's brother came to live with them. Her uncle was a total bastard to her mother, and it made her mom so upset that it destroyed her health. Yia Yia said watching this made her decide to never let anything anybody did or said bother her, and that she was glad I wasn't destroyed over this whole thing. She said the only thing that upset her about this was the fact that it shouldn't have happened to me, because I'm a nice person. She then said, and this is one of my all-time favorite Yia Yia lines, "No one would ever meet you and say to themselves 'Boy that Gen is lousy.'" Hee hee. I love Yia Yia.

I also went to the slot machine casino with my Thea. I won seven dollars! And she only lost 35! Good times.

Is it wrong that I almost don't want to turn off my cable because I like watching Dawson's reruns in the morning on TBS, even though I have all the seasons on DVD (except 6 - got to get on that) and have seen every episode plenty of times. I think it is. Oh, Pacey. Oh, season three Pacey. Sigh.

Is it also wrong that no matter what silly, mundane thing I'm doing during the day, I want to tell Dave about it? Or that thinking about his smile makes me smile? I don't think so. I'm giddy happy. Giddier happier than I've been in forever. I'm going to Asheville with him and some of his friends this weekend. Whee!

I love teaching! I love my students! I love literature! I love the weather! I love North Carolina! I love cinnamon raisin peanut butter! Hooray!!
